20th anniversary Optimus Prime Review (part 1)

ROBOT FORM AND OVERVIEW OF OPTIMUS PRIME

"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings"

I was lucky enough to finally get my hands on of the 20th anniversary DVD Edition Optimus Prime Figure after pestering my mother for quite some time. Hell am I pleased with him. This figure is actually an MP-1 Optimus Prime from Takara now re-released by Hasbro as a 20th Anniversary DVD Edition. Yes,this IS the lousier version of the Autobot Leader, but judging by the price tag, this guy isn't bad at all.
This Optimus prime Figure features:
An Ion blaster
Energon axe
Megatron Pistol
Spring Loaded suspension
Autobot Matrix
Light up matrix Chamber
Flip-out Datacom Interface
Talking Mouth Plate
Moving antennas

Well that's about it. Doesn't seem too interesting? Well, thats because the main wow factor of this toy is not the features, its the design. Standing just a couple hairs under 12 inches, Optimus Prime is a magnificent piece of engineering. His head is typical for Optimus Prime: blue helmet, gray face, mouth plate, and vent. His eyes are a metallic light blue. His upper torso and arms are mostly red. Two gray vents, one on either side of his head, reside on the top of his torso. Above each window are two gray mounts with orange, nonfunctional lights. The windows are lined in silver with one gray wiper on each. His mid-section has the typical silver stripe separated by the chrome grill in the middle.
"Bow unto me!!!"

This Optimus Prime has shorter smoke stacks compared to the takara version (due to safety precaution matters). My take on the short stacks is that once you get the toy out of the box and admire him, the smokestacks just don''t seem to matter as much when the rest of the toy is so good. But there is one advantage to the shortstacks as I see it. If the Takara Prime falls off the shelf the longstacks could break (which would be a huge disappointment). But if Hasbro Prime falls, his shortstacks should be fine. There is nothing more heartbreaking than when a Transformer breaks, and this Prime breaking would be the mother of all heartbreaks. Just my opinion though.
Megatron:Have mercy Prime!!!
Optimus prime:You deserve no mercy!!!

On the outside of each forearm is a small panel that can open up to reveal a DataCom interface. The inner panel is dark gray with white-painted buttons. On the flip-up screens are one of two characters. The right arms shows Grimlock while the left shows Megatron. One has to wonder if Megatron is up to something by calling Prime.

Overall, this toy is a good buy if you are looking for a good collectible and can't afford the Takara model. Highly recommended.
"Until that day...'til all are one."
